The kick-off meeting took place in Agrofield facilities last September 2015
European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme is going to finance the project WHEYCOM (SME INSTRUMENT, Phase 2). The Spanish company Agrofield S.L. is the Project Coordinator and the only partner of WHEYSAN, but Agrofield is going to be supported by other organisations in order to achieve the project objectives.
The idea is to exploit the results of previous efforts carried out in the European project WHEYSAN. As a result, WHEYCOM wants to use a substitute for chlorine (using whey derived from the cheese industry) in Food Industry for fresh fruit and vegetables.
WHEYCOM main goals are: On the one hand, their business objectives are optimization of the formula and application methods, identification of target niche markets and business model implementation, Licensing Agreements and Intellectual Property Rights. In contrast, they have environmental objectives as reducing the use of chlorine for disinfection of F&V and reducing the whey waste generated in the cheese industry.
On September 2015, Agrofield and the main project supporters held the kick-off meeting in Agrofield facilities to organise activities and workflow during the project. The attendees to the meeting were the project Coordinator (Agrofield) and the organization and company which support the project development like the Spanish company Contactica S.L. and the Spanish Technological Centre CTIC-CITA. They discussed about overall project goals, financial issues and the project work programme.
The project is funded by call H2020-SMEINST-2-2014 and the topic is SFS-082014. WHEYCOM started last August 1st 2015 and it will be developed until 2017 by the SME Agrofield S.L. from La Rioja (Spain). Furthermore, other organizations and companies support the project like Contactica S.L. from Madrid (Spain) and CTIC-CITA from La Rioja (Spain), which also were partners of the previous project WHEYSAN.
